Reconciliation meetings are a tax on decision-making. They exist because the same word means different things in different systems, and because no single artifact records which meaning is authoritative.
Definitions belong in version control
A metric layer stores each definition as code: the source tables, the filters, the grain and the owner. Changes go through review like any other change, and every dashboard reads from the same definition rather than reimplementing it.
Certify a small set first
Start with the ten metrics that appear in board reporting. Certifying those ten well produces more organizational trust than partially governing a hundred.
Publish quality alongside the number
Freshness, completeness and anomaly status shown next to each figure tell readers when to act and when to wait. Trust comes from transparency about limitations, not from claiming there are none.
